Rocky Mountain Spirituality includes an
intense realization that the Divine Presence values novelty as a major
aspect of the spiritual journey. As Process Theologians John Cobb and
David Ray Griffin remind us: "God is the goad toward novelty
in the universe, stimulating us to realize new possibilities after the
old ones no longer are sufficient to give zest to our enjoyment." From a
meteorological perspective, Rocky Mountain weather embodies this
principle perfectly. A common adage among Coloradans puts it this way:
"Don't like the weather? Just wait an hour!" Snow can occur in the
mountains any day of the year, and a storm can arise out of nowhere. On
the other hand, 60-degree winter days are not uncommon, and the
temperature can drop thirty degrees in just an hour!
