Generally, a snowshoe hike to the edge of Emerald Lake (at a little over 10,000 feet) involves getting blasted with the intense winter winds that so often blow across the lake. Yesterday, however, the wind was almost completely calm. That enabled me to hike across the deep snow to the far side of the lake. I was amazed by how dramatic these spires looked when I arrived on the west end!
