Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

The Autumn time-change from Daylight Savings back to Standard Time feels like a sort of "psychological winter solstice"

To me, the Autumn time-change from Daylight Savings back to Standard Time feels like a sort of "psychological Winter Solstice."

In my inner life, it marks the transition from Autumn to Winter, a time when earlier evening darkness leads to an enhanced desire to practice contemplative prayer.  Here, I know myself to be surrounded by the mystery of the Divine Presence - an all-encompassing embrace  that is so close, it feels to the mind like darkness and unknowing, yet which can be recognized as the deepest intimacy by the eye of the heart.
