"Like reflections on a limpid lake,
The multitude of phenomena manifest
While being empty of independent existence.
Today, understand with certainty
That everything is only empty forms.
"Like a clear cloudless sky,
The nature of mind, the king, is the absolute dimension.
Today, understand with certainty
That it has always been unborn,
Empty and luminous, without changing.
"Like the clouds that evaporate into space, the multitude
of thoughts
Are spontaneously liberated in the absolute dimension.
Today, understand with certainty
That, in reality, whatever arises is ungraspable and
dissolves of itself.
"Like beautiful birds soaring in space,
Recognize this mind as space itself.
By spreading the wings of meditative experience and
realization,
Understand that its nature is the nondwelling absolute
dimension.
"Like the rainbow's colors in an immaculate sky
Is the shimmer of thoughts in the nature of mind.
Today, understand with certainty
That whatever arises is the sovereign mind,
empty and luminous,
Which transcends any attachment . . .
"Just as turbid water becomes clear at rest,
Today, understand with certainty
That by leaving thoughts alone just as they are,
They naturally become limpid by themselves
And are spontaneously liberated in the absolute dimension."

14th century Tibetan Buddhist teacher and scholar
