Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

At Zion, one easily experiences union with the Divine

Zion Canyon naturally lends itself to a multi-faceted experience of union with the Divine. Hiking to the top of the rim at Observation Point, one's awareness expands to take on the vastness and freedom of the Sacred.
Lying on the spectacularly beautiful sandstone, one feels united to the Ground of Being out of which all things emerge.

And venturing up the Narrows of the Virgin River, one senses that one's identity is an integral part of the limitless River of Life, never again to feel isolated or alienated. Having felt this union at Zion, one then returns home with a greater ability to let go of the problems associated with life in a corporate-industrial society, and to merge more easily with the vastness and grandeur of the Greater Whole.
