Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Mutual Bliss and the Silence of Christmas Eve

Earlier, I spoke of the silence of Christmas Eve in terms of Divine LISTENING, and also of RESTING  in our Divine Source. However, it also embodies Divine BLISS. St. Thomas Aquinas refers to the Holy Spirit as the "Sigh" of the Godhead, the mutual bliss of the Father content with the Son and of the Son content with the Father. To speak in other terms, we can say that the personality present within Spaciousness finds contentment in the surprising, spontaneous birth of Form within Its own vast expanse, while the personality present within Form finds contentment in becoming suddenly and inexplicably transparent to Spaciousness. Here, we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of these Two Realities - in the unity of the Holy Spirit, in the mutual bliss and contentment of Father and Son, of Spaciousness and Form. And this Unity - this mutual bliss -- is actually a FEMININE reality - the presence of Sophia Wisdom!
