Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Because of the humble self-emptying of God, transcendence is never an end in itself.

Wilderness Spirituality includes a communion not only with the Divine Feminine, but with the Sacred Masculine - with Transcendence, with the Great Beyond, with God. This cosmic masculinity is innate to the spacious, stable nature of Awareness, one that is also filled with his vast love and bliss. Because of God's innate humility and self-emptying, his transcendence is never - nor has it ever been - an end in itself. Rather, the vastness of his sky-like, lake-like love delights in serving as a Backdrop - a Ground - upon which the beauty and goodness of the Goddess is able to manifest itself in all of its glory. Traditionalists typically worry about "worshipping the creation rather than the Creator." However, with God, this is a non-issue. In the first place, the creation is indwelt by the Goddess, who shares the creative act with God, just as all of US come into this world through the agency of both a father and a mother. But secondly, God, In his self-emptying, lives always IN PRAISE OF THE GODDESS, just as a man can't help but adore a radiant woman. In fact, God asks that we, united with him in his spacious, loving awareness, DO LIKEWISE, which is precisely the attitude that is needed in our time of corporate-industrial devastation.
