Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Allowing Ourselves to Be Embraced by an Insight We Only Dimly Perceive

As spiritual seekers, we so often look for a crystal-clear epiphany that will wholly transform our lives. Sometimes, however, when our vision fades, we can instead allow our awareness to BE HELD and embraced by the revelation we are seeking. In other words, our relation to truth runs two ways. As the author of the biblical Book of Wisdom says, "Wisdom herself walks about looking for those who are worthy of her." Sometimes it is important simply to let the presence of Wisdom surround and hold us without knowing exactly what the nature of the insight is that is grasping a hold of us. Indeed, the spiritual darkness we sometimes feel may often arise from the fact that - because Truth is EMBRACING us so closely - we can't see anything with clarity!
