Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Zion National Park is Truly a Sanctuary

This past Labor Day weekend, we spent three days hiking and camping at Zion National Park. "Zion" means 'sanctuary' in Hebrew, and a sanctuary it truly is! Though hot during the day (in the upper 90s), a balmy breeze would begin to blow every evening, lasting until early morning.  A secluded site in the campground meant ample time for meditation, gazing up at the Milky Way, and drinking coffee at a leisurely pace in the morning.  Then hiking adventures during the day!  What an amazing place!
