Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Almost every wise saying has an opposite one, no less wise, to balance it.

"Almost every wise saying has an opposite one, no less wise, to balance it."

George Santayana

I am very grateful for our lush Spring here in northern Colorado.  In March, we were drought-stricken, resulting in an extensive fire that occurred in my place of daily spiritual retreat.  Since then, we've had a lot of snow and rain, and now the meadows that burned are emerald-green, making a nice contrast with fire-blackened trees, red cliffs and blue lakes.  It's almost as though Nature knew we needed a reprieve after last summer's record-breaking fires, and helped balance things out with a wet spring.
