Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

When the imagination can break through the wall of its own desires and fears, and can embrace the naked beauty of the real world, then we have discovered Paradise. Natural happiness.

"The old gods have been swept like so many mildewed spiders out of the skies, out of space . . . And the universe is big and open now, with ample room for adventure and mystery, novelty and breathing and speculation.  The moral: The human imagination, when it feeds only upon itself, as in the Dark Ages, does not liberate - it confines and poisons the imprisoned spirit . . . But when the imagination can break through the wall of its own desires and fears, and can embrace the naked beauty of the real world, then we have discovered Paradise.  Natural happiness."
