Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Giving emotional energies the space to flow and congeal into meaning in their own time.

Over the past several months, I've been deluged with strong emotional energies that are mostly afflictive and self-castigating. Many appear during nighttime dreams, which is a new experience for me. Trying to affix a label on them - or define them or find their cause or express them to others - only increases their troubling nature by creating unnecessary drama. Besides, I realize they may have their source in something much Bigger than my own personal story: perhaps in the planet, or in the clay from which my body is made, or in the history of my ancestors, or in the inner life of the Creator.

It seems best simply to allow these emotions to flow and not force them to congeal into something more understandable before they are ready to do so. I pray for the grace simply to watch them, offer them space, and allow them to transform into wisdom in their own time.
