Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

How little we know of plants' hopes and fears, pains and enjoyments!

"How little we know as yet of the life of plants - their hopes and fears, pains and enjoyments!"

The Contemplative John Muir

The last time I saw any foothills Spring-beauty flowers in bloom was on February 12th. Since then, we've had a series of snowstorms that covered all of the flowering plants completely. But today they made their reappearance, this time with a plethora of new buds ready to burst into bloom.
