Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Wonder is an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantment of later years.

"If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantments of later years, the sterile preoccupation with things artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength."

Rachel Carson

The hike up Professor Creek Canyon is filled with wondrous surprises! On this particular hike, I encountered several large frogs living in the canyon. Then, of course, is the 35-foot fall that roars over a chockstone at the end of the canyon, where the walls narrow to 15 feet and the rock glows hot orange above.
