Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

If the Creator's life is an adventure, doesn't it make sense that theology would be the MOST adventurous of pursuits rather than the least?

I'm convinced that life on Earth is meant to be profoundly adventurous. Obviously this means spending lots of time exploring wild and beautiful landscapes, meaningful relationships with people of a variety of different personality types, and a whole plethora of cultures. But for spiritual seekers, it also includes the adventure of exploring new ideas, insights and images.

One of the strangest things about traditional religion is the fact that it so often honors creative adventure in the fields of science, technology and the arts, but forbids it in the arena of theology. If our Divine Source is known to be a "CREATOR" - as many religious traditions affirm - doesn't it make sense that being "made in the image and likeness of God" means being CREATIVE in the field of endeavor most likely closest to God's heart - theology? Wouldn't IT be the MOST adventurous field of study rather than the least?
