Often we identify ourselves with our own emotions and passions and then bemoan the fact that we have trouble controlling our anger, our lust, our depression. However, a Wilderness Mysticism encourages us to treat these emotions as wild presences that have a life of their own. They are like various species of wildflowers, each with its own unique coloring, shape and subjective presence.
When we stop identifying with our passions and instead treat them respectfully as presences that are NOT us, we can allow them to speak to us and reveal their underlying wisdom. In the absence of such gentle listening, the emotions begin acting up like bratty children, DEMANDING to be heard. But when we respect and listen for their wisdom, they calm down and begin opening up their hidden treasures.
