Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Sometimes I can hardly believe the beauty of Fall!

Sometimes I can hardly believe the beauty of Fall! Yesterday, hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, I watched spellbound as the clouds played upon the peaks while gold and orange Aspen leaves shimmied in the breeze.

A hike up to Cub Lake - through the burn that occurred two years ago - revealed beautiful gold mixed amongst the blackened trunks.

And the bugling of the bull elk in the chilly evening air - a sort of cross between a squeaky hinge and an elephant call - elicited in me a feeling of wildness and nostalgia. What a day!

Photos: Aspen, an old burn, and bugling elk in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, October 10, 2014.  Here's a video of the elk bugling (please skip the ad): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSpGd9p17n0
