Welcome! I am a contemplative thinker and photographer from Colorado. In this blog, you'll discover photographs that I've taken on my hiking and backpacking trips, mostly in the American West. I've paired these with my favorite inspirational and philosophical quotes - literary passages that emphasize the innate spirituality of the natural world. I hope you enjoy them!

Mount Rainier National Park Never Fails to Make Visitors Joyful and Elated!

I've been to a lot of National Parks, yet it always seems that the visitors at Mount Rainier are the most happy, joyful and elated, especially on a sunny day when The Mountain is "out" in all of her glory. There's something about the massive, glacier-covered volcano looming almost improbably RIGHT THERE - combined with lush wildflower meadows, abundant streams, and waterfalls - that causes people to be and feel at their best. Even people who wouldn't normally think of themselves as hikers - overweight people, people in street shoes, people from other countries who didn't come prepared to hike - find themselves ascending at least partway up the trails, across snowfields and up steep inclines - in order to get closer to that huge creampuff. What an amazing place Rainier is!
